• How much does the event cost?

  Nothing to participants. We're working with sponsors to make the event free of charge.

• Are you looking for volunteers or mentors?

  Absolutely! If you're interested in helping out at the event, email us here.

• How to I form a team, and how big should it be?

  Teams can be any size, but 3-8 is probably the norm. To find a team, join our Facebook group

• How will I know what someone else’s specialty is?

  Networking is important here. To put a great team together, you’ll to walk around and talk to people. There will be a system at the event for identifying people with certain skills, but you’ll need to talk to people to find out exactly what they can offer.

• What kind of prototypes did people build last year?

  Check out past challenge presentations on the KiwiSpace SpaceApps page or the global winners.

• What time should I get there on Saturday?

  Try to arrive at 8:00am to complete your registration early and get your t-shirt, and so you have a chance to start networking with other attendees.

• How do I get there?

  Here's a map showing the location of the building. Just down from the corner of Wakefield Street on Mayoral drive, you'll find a small plaza. Enter the WG/Sir Paul Reeves building there and go up one flight of stairs to level 4. We should have signs at all entrances.

• Do I need to bring a computer?

  Yes, make sure you bring a computer or tablet - as well as anything else you need to get the job done. Don't forget your charger!

• I’m doing a hardware challenge! Do I need to bring my own supplies and tools?

  Yes, pretty much. If you have AUT students in your team they may have access to workshops -- but check with them, don't assume.

• Anything else I should bring?

  A notebook for designing stuff! And if you have an extra extension cord and/or power strip that’s always helpful.

• Will food be provided?

  Space Apps Challenge is a free event, and we depend on sponsorship to provide amenities like food to participants. At the moment, the plan is to provide coffee/tea/water and some fruit during the day, and pizza and salads for dinner on Sat/Sun. Queen Street, with a variety of food options, is only 5 minutes walk.

• The Space Apps Challenge is in Auckland. In what way is this an international event?

  Auckland is one of more than 100 cities participating in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge. While we definitely want to earn some bragging rights for our city, there will also be opportunities to build multi-city teams with team members working across more than one city.
  Once local winners are announced (incl. multi-city teams) on Monday evening, NASA will select a number of best-of apps over different categories.
